What is the concept behind CabForms?

CabForms was developed to fill the gap between conventional laminate wall panel packages and costly custom interiors. Utilizing Forms+Surfaces’ diverse range of beautiful materials, the system provides a high-design “custom” look without the custom price.

What is included in the CabForms package?

The CabForms system consists of pre-fabricated panels for side and rear walls along with bases, handrail(s) and optional ceiling with downlights.

Does the CabForms system encompass the front returns, jambs and header areas?

No, not as part of the standard product package. Matching sheet goods are available to address these applications but experience shows that these areas usually remain in commodity finishes such as polished or satin stainless steel.

How hard is it to install the CabForms interior?

The system has been designed for quick, trouble-free installation. The package arrives with components neatly organized and includes all the necessary fasteners, adhesives and templates along with easy-to-follow installation instructions.

Who takes responsibility for the installation?

Depending on the locality and the particular circumstances of each project the buying party will either perform the installation work itself or sub the installation out to qualified third-party contractors.

What is the CabForms warranty?

The warranty period is one year from date of invoice for defects in materials or workmanship.

What is the standard ceiling configuration?

The standard ceiling for most cabs is a six-panel suspended island design in stainless steel or Fused Metal with six downlights. A nine-panel version with nine lights is standard for Series 3000-B cabs and may be specified as an option for other models. Custom ceilings are also available. Pricing for custom ceilings is based on the complexity of the design and the materials selected.

What are the specs on your ceiling lights?

Each of the downlights is mounted in a black, cast metal housing 3" in diameter. Lamps are 12V/20W halogen with an aluminum reflector. The lighting system includes a 12V power supply and wire harnessing with quick-connect terminals. Standard input voltage is 120VAC; 220VAC is also available. The lighting system comes completely pre-installed in the CabForms ceiling. Some installers prefer to relocate the power supply to the top side of the canopy and sufficient wire harness length to do this is included.

Is emergency lighting available?

Yes. Emergency lighting can be specified as an add-on to the standard lighting system. The emergency lighting system incorporates an additional power supply with a battery to power the emergency lights in the event of a main power failure. The power supply includes an automatic battery charger, test switch, low battery voltage circuit and alarm terminals. The emergency lights themselves are small high-intensity lamps integrated into two of the standard downlight housings.

Are other lighting types available as alternatives to the standard halogen downlights?

Yes. Other lighting types including indirect perimeter lighting are available by special order. Please call for additional information.

Can the emergency exit be placed anywhere in the ceiling?

Yes. The Design/Ordering Guide asks you to detail the exact placement of the emergency exit on the shell canopy. This information will be verified a second time on the approval drawings.

Can cab anomalies such as truncated corners, guide rail pockets, etc. be accommodated?

Yes. As long as we know about them upfront we can accommodate most cab anomalies.

What if the cab shell is out of square?

The CabForms wall panels and reveals have tolerances built into them that will easily accommodate the vast majority of out-of-square conditions that you are likely to encounter. If a particular cab shell has extreme dimensional discrepancies they can be noted in the margins of the Design/Ordering Guide form and will then be detailed and verified in the approval drawings.

How do you handle ventilation?

CabForms interiors are designed to accommodate most standard vent configurations. Unusual or non-standard ventilation requirements should be brought to our attention and detailed in the approval drawings to ensure compliance once material is installed.

Do CabForms interiors meet fire codes?

Backer materials and all Stainless Steel and Fused Metals are Class 1 fire-rated for smoke development and flame spread. Bonded Metal® is Class 2 fire-rated for smoke development and flame spread. Wood veneers are available as Class 2 fire-rated at an additional cost.

Do CabForms interiors meet the buffer test?

Yes. CabForms interiors have been tested at 2X code requirements.

Are your railings rated?

Yes. The code calls for 200 lbs. and our railings tested at 700 lbs.

How do I clean the CabForms interior?

Maintenance instructions for specific materials are available if you need them.

Can I replace damaged sections?

Yes, quickly and easily. If replacement panels are needed they can be ordered from Forms+Surfaces.

Do you have other design options that go beyond the standard CabForms models?

Yes. If you have something specific in mind or if you’re working with an architect Forms+Surfaces will be happy to discuss customized versions of CabForms. Pricing for custom CabForms will be higher and lead times will be longer.

Can I use my own inset materials in Series 2000 and 3000 interiors?

Yes, as long as the inset materials meet certain dimensional and other technical requirements. Forms+Surfaces can determine suitability once you give us the specs. These changes would constitute custom work and would probably increase the price.

What if the shell is made out of wood?

As long as the drawings specify the material CabForms interiors can be factory-prepared for installation in any type of shell.

How much does the CabForms interior weigh?

Once you’ve selected the cab interior with its various options and have given us your cab shell’s interior dimensions we can give you the weight. We have methods to lower the total weight if it becomes an issue.

Are samples of CabForms materials available?

Yes.

Can we get materials that match the cab walls for use in other areas?

Yes. Most CabForms materials and finishes can be matched for the elevator doors, headers, jambs, returns, lobby walls and other areas.
