Forms+Surfaces’ ability to offer one-stop
shopping came in handy for the producers of The Terminal, a 2004
motion picture directed by Stephen Spielberg and starring Tom Hanks. A
full-size airport terminal had to be built for the film complete with
furnishings, retail outlets and all the amenities viewers would expect
to see in a modern airport environment. One of the largest indoor
movie sets ever constructed, the finished result has been widely
acclaimed both for its authenticity and its breathtaking scale.
Working closely with set decorator Anne Kuljian, Forms+Surfaces
provided The Terminal with custom flight information displays, custom
stainless steel and glass display cases, Bonded Metal® planters,
Universal litter receptacles and planters, custom phone booths and the
beautiful red and black leather RS Seating seen in the terminal’s gate
areas. The spectacular success of the film’s set design demonstrates
that, even for a fictional terminal, the best resource was one that
offers a comprehensive range of products made for the real thing.
