Washington D.C.’s Blue Line Metrorail
extension project includes two new stations at Largo Town Center and
Morgan Boulevard. Benefiting from all the hard lessons WMATA has
learned about durability in public transit, the new facilities make
extensive use of stainless steel products from Forms+Surfaces.
An illuminated version of our Silhouette railing was installed in the
stations’ entrances and stairwells. Incorporating a recessed,
low-voltage LED light strip on the underside of the handrail, this
unique design enhances visibility while also providing a dynamic
visual element that complements the tempered glass infill panels.
Stainless steel and glass were likewise materials of choice for 25
passenger windscreens and bus shelters custom fabricated by
Forms+Surfaces. Shelter options included telephone enclosures,
illuminated display panels and our stainless steel Transit seating. As
the Metrorail system reaches beyond the Beltway, Forms+Surfaces
products are helping to create cleaner, more inviting station
environments that encourage increased use of public transportation.
