7 World Trade Center is the first tower to
be rebuilt after the destruction of September 11, 2001. Housing
critical telecommunications and electrical infrastructure, the new
52-story building required fast-track construction but the design also
had to address the profound historical and cultural implications
inherent in the WTC site.
Forms+Surfaces provided some of the new tower’s most visible elements
including 7,000 spandrel panels and sill assemblies seen below the
exterior windows. The spandrel panels were fabricated from type 316
stainless steel with our exclusive Sandstone finish and a custom
ribbed embossure. The sills are also 316 stainless steel with a
super-mirror finish and a special sapphire vapor deposition that gives
the sills their unique reflective blue tint.
