Formerly dispersed in
18 separate locations, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s 7,100
employees are now consolidated in a spectacular new campus on the
Eisenhower Corridor in Alexandria. Forms+Surfaces provided more than
5,000 lineal feet of custom stainless steel railing for the complex’s
most prominent public areas including the main entrance, central
atrium, stairways and pedestrian walks.
Minimalist in form, the railing starts with narrow-profile posts
laser-cut from stainless steel plate. ADA compliant handrail is formed
from welded stainless steel tubing, while half-inch tempered glass
serves as infill. The overall effect is one of openness and clarity,
befitting an agency devoted to rigorous research and the assimilation
of new technologies. With its timeless design and long life-cycle
materials, Forms+Surfaces’ custom railing will be on hand to help
further the PTO’s mission for many generations to come.
