Urban Renaissance Receptacle with Fan grillwork; Copenhagen Bench

Urbana is a classic American downtown that’s working hard to maintain its distinctive identity and character. Fighting back after decades of suburbanization and shifting demographics, the city has developed a broad-reaching master plan that includes downtown renewal, urban forestry and extensive economic development.

Forms+Surfaces worked with city arborist Michael Brunk to supply Copenhagen benches and Urban Renaissance receptacles as part of the city’s downtown beautification program. Fitting in perfectly with Urbana’s idyllic main street architecture, the furniture’s fan-like, botanically inspired design theme looks particularly appropriate in a city that places such a strong emphasis on greenspace and tree preservation.

City officials have been delighted with the way Forms+Surfaces’ products have helped to create an appealing, pedestrian-scale environment. As merchants and shoppers are attracted back to the city’s core, area residents are rediscovering the convenience and feeling of community that a traditional downtown offers.
