One of the nation’s largest general fine
arts museums, the IMA recently completed a major expansion that
includes new gallery and exhibition spaces as well as a new entry
pavilion and areas for special events. For this facility devoted to
the visual arts, the designers couldn’t have made a better choice in
exterior seating than Forms+Surfaces’ sculptural Leda bench.
Leda’s timeless form defies stereotyping in any period or style. At
once classical and modernist, Leda’s distinctive appearance is matched
only by its durability and resistance to the elements. The bench
structure is solid cast aluminum; wood slats are made from Ipé, a
dense hardwood that carries the USDA Forest Products Laboratory’s
highest rating for decay and insect resistance. A work of art in its
own right, the practical and affordable Leda bench can now be
considered part of the IMA’s permanent collection.
