Forms+Surfaces played a major role in
transforming five miles of dilapidated wharves into one of New York
City’s most spectacular public spaces. A combination of marine and
urban environments, the Hudson River Park renovation placed unique
demands on the products installed there. Durability, of course, was
critical, but the designers working on this LEED™ certified project
also wished to maximize use of environmentally sustainable
materials.
Fortunately, the ideal materials turned out to be ones Forms+Surfaces
was already using in a rich variety of applications. Products we
supplied for Hudson River Park included miles of custom guardrail made
from unpainted stainless steel. A stainless steel version of our L209
Lighthouse Bollard was also developed with special LED lamping that
reduces energy consumption and maintenance. Seating and other wood
elements were supplied in Ipé, a sustainably produced hardwood that’s
naturally resistant to moisture, vandalism and decay. These and other
Forms+Surfaces products have helped turn a former eyesore into a new
City landmark for the 21st Century.
