Opened to great acclaim in late 2002, The
Mall at Millenia provides a distinctly upscale shopping destination
for the fast-growing Orlando area. Forms+Surfaces’ custom
manufacturing capabilities were called upon to create the mall’s most
spectacular feature: a circle of twelve LED display masts surrounding
the central Grand Court. Representing the twelve months of the year,
the installation was designed as a modern, high-tech interpretation of
Stonehenge where past and future converge.
Standing 38 feet in height, the masts were fabricated from structural
steel with a contoured aluminum outer skin. The 4 x 10 foot curved LED
panels broadcast a rich variety of multimedia content for both
advertising and entertainment. Lower down on the masts, cloud-like
sculptural elements formed from half-inch acrylic float in a
metaphorical sky. Like windows into the heavens, these unique displays
invite visitors to enter central Florida’s new paradise of
high-fashion retail and dining.
